I purchased a regular crib and other kids furniture at the local super center

When my daughter was born in 2004 I purchased a regular crib at the local super center. It was just a pine color crib, made by Graco, and it was not expensive.

I purchased the matching 5 drawer dresser to go with it. At the same time I also purchased a small rocking chair with small ottoman. This chair was also quite inexpensive, costing us around $100.00 at the time.

You definitely need a rocker when you have a newborn, for feeding, etc. When my daughter turned 3 I decided it was time to buy her a “big girl” bed.

I went to every single furniture store in our town but nothing seemed to be what I wanted for her. What I was looking for was a bed that she could use until her teen years. Good quality and looks were very important to me rather than price.

I casually browsed thru a Pottery Barn catalog while waiting at my pediatrician’s office and I saw a bed that caught my attention. I asked the girl at the desk if I could take the catalog home and she said there wasn’t any problem. So I did.

When I got home I immediately started going thru the furniture section. I saw this bed and that was it for me. It is white, single bed, the headboard and foot board has slates (I do not know how to describe it any better) and then each corner has like a poster with a ball on top. Read more »

We chose the living room furniture mainly by price, style, and comfort

Our living room is on the small size for a living room but about average for the duplex style on our block. It has a strange layout that limits how you place the furniture.

One wall has sliding glass doors. Another is long enough to put almost anything against it. The third wall is fairly short due to the doorway leading into the hall to the bedrooms. And the forth “wall” won’t even fit a loveseat.

What I would suggest to anyone with these issues is to find a way to maximize the space you have in the room by using the furniture to define where the room starts and ends. We only rent and brought our furniture in with us, which consists of a love seat and a chair with an ottoman. Read more »
